What genre would my book be?

Question: What genre would my book be!?

I recently finished a novel and I am unsure as to what the actual genre would be, because it has elements of various genres!. To summarize, it is set in the year 2175 in which a totalitarian fascist regime is in complete domination of the brainwashed world populace!. This leads to a war of ideologies between the government and a shadowy resistance movement which seeks to oust the world government!. Basically, everything that takes place in the book is reasonable!. There isn't anything too far-fetched, and technology plays only a minor role!. The primary focus is on political ideologies, activism, and the consequences of war!. Would this be a thriller or social science fiction or what!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I was a science fiction editor in New York City for 10 years!. Were I to receive your book on submission, I'd categorize it as sociological science fiction, the definition of which is science fiction that focuses on future or alternative social systems!.

It's definitely some subgenre of science fiction!. I think it sounds more like military than social sci-fi from your brief synopsis!.

For those who say it is should be in the same genre as 1984 I'd agree that both are sci-fi but 1984 is widely seen as a classic of the distopian subgenre of science-fiction!. Your book doesn't necessarily seem to describe a distopia!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I was going to give some made up answer that was ultimately worthless, but then you said "year 2175" and "totalitarian fascist regime"!. I was about to type about how awesome this sounded!.

But then you failed!. No mention of robots, and "technology plays only a minor role"!. So it will go in the fail genre!. Way to get my hopes up!.

It could be thriller or it could be fantasy!. Anything set in the future may have its roots in the present, but whatever you are writing about in that future period is pure conjecture on your part, so that makes it fantasy!.
But let's create a new category and call it political science fictionWww@QuestionHome@Com

It could be a science fiction thriller!.!.!. who knows!? If the cover caught my attention, I'd totally read it through!. Just don't use as many big words as you did in your question!.

Though it sounds action-y, it's probably closer to a Political Fiction!. Science Fiction is more with technology etc!.
