Question: Protection or Censorship!?
I thought some of you would enjoy this article!.

http://www!.usatoday!.com/news/education/2!.!.!.

It is an article addressing how parents, groups, etc have made formal complaints to have novels removed from schools and public libraries!. Below the article is a list of those complaints organized into an easy-to-read diagram (I believe the list ranges from 2004 to the present)!.
Though some of the books are not classics (like the guide on how to grow marijuana), many of the books listed are very influential!. I mean, Chocolate Wars, To Kill and Mockingbird, I Know Why a Caged Bird Sings!?
The thought that these books continue to be challenged is unfathomable!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Who said you have to tip toe around them!?

Kindly remind them that they are retarded, that there's no way to accidently read a book!. Tell them that if they want to scream for censorship they should do it to Television networks that are targeting their children with corporate messages and turning them into little buy machines!.

Punch 'em in the fricken' face whenever they open they're stupid mouths!.

In short, what I'm demonstrating here is that you have to become equally stupid in the opposite direction of folks that want to legislate their morality on the rest of us or no one will ever know that some people are outraged by it!. It's the squeaky wheel effect!.

But I think squeaky wheels are more humorous when they slap other, stupider squeaky wheels in the face!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Since all you have to do with Yahoo answers is to look at the questions in certain categories and you will learn that the Middle Schoolers and High Schoolers know far more than their parents did at that age!.

Most of the opposition to the books that you mentioned come from the religious sector, and it is done with the intent to keep materials that the church does not want in front of students!. Others, like the attempt to censor Huckleberry Finn are done to keep the N word out of the vocabulary!.

It is not protection, it is censorship!.

It reminds me of a book that was published while I was in High School, PEYTON PLACE!. There were many attempts to keep them out of the hands of high school students because the book got very much into sex!. I can remember students who were reading it would bring it to school and read it during study hall!. Many of them had their books taken away from them by the study hall proctor!. I believe that the parent and the child(ren) should sit together and decide what they're going to do about certain books!. Is it protection or is it censorship!? How does the child define it and how does the parent define it!?

I think that having it banned is something totally wrong!. Now, there are books I don't like--like the Chocolate Wars--but it doesn't mean that someone else shouldn't get the chance to read it!. That's wrong!. That's censorship and they think they're doing the right thing, but we all know they're not!. The kid will get it from someplace else and read it!. You can't stop them!. I think that the books you named are harmless compared to what kids see on tv and I am just talking about advertisement!. I call it censorship in the name of protection!. Besides reading is taking a backseat to video games, internet and tv; which is sad because a book lets your imagination soar!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Giver!?! Clifford the Big Red Dog!?! Wow, do those people have ANYTHING on their shelves!? Oh my!.!.!. what next!? Dr!. Seuss!?

Books should NEVER be censored!. Those people need to trust children and teens (or move to a communist country)!.

You're right, I don't understand why some people try to meddle with and control others' lives!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

With the internet and television, they're exposed to much worse things!. Violence and sex in movies, tv shows and even in the news!.
I think this is censorship, not protection!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
