Question: In the poem" a song in the front yard" what identity is Brooks assuming, and what is the persona expressing!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
In this poem Brooks is assuming the identity of a young white girl who is looking at the less fortunate black children with envy!. The persona is saying how things look like fun on the surface because the other children don't have to go in so early and can say out and play!. Her mother disapproves but she still insists on going against her opinion!.

An important fact to note when analyzing the poem is that it was written by an African American woman at a time before desegregation!.
