I adore Garth Nix!. His Old Kindom series (Sabriel, Lirael, Abhorsen) is fantastic!. Twists and turns, good depth of character, visual and layered writing, links and pathways, incredible imagination!. His historical references are well researched too!. Theyre mainly a teen series, but there a TON of good reading in that section that isnt dumbed down or anything, they just happen to have a teen character in!. Having said that, these ones don't have teen characters!. Give them a try!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Shannon Hale kind of writes for young adults, but my mom reads them too and loves them!. She mostly takes fairy tales and changes them a little bit to make them her own story!. You could also try Terry Brooks!. He's somewhat similar to J!.R!.R!. Tolkien with elves, dwarfs, wizards, magic, and the like, but he's different and is a little bit easier to understand than Tolkien!. !_!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can try with two Italian writers: Licia Troisi, whose books I have not read yet, (but I know she is too popular here)and Giorgio Faletti, (Io uccido/I kill) if you like Stephen King!.
Try them! Bye, Anna!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try Garth Nix!. He writes for children, but his books - particularly the Abhorsen trilogy - are really engaging, imaginative and just plain good!.

Of course there's also Phillip Pullman, but I guess you just missed him off the list!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
