I feel very sorry for you!. Reading is one of life's great pleasures and you are obviously missing out!.

Maybe if you worked out exactly why you dislike reading so much, you can fix the problem!. Do you have an eye or learning problem (eg: dyslexia or underdeveloped literacy skills)!? If so, that's nothing to be ashamed of, you just need professional help to resolve it!. Do you have a negative association with books (have you had a bad experience with reading that makes you reluctant to read again)!? Do you feel reading takes time out of your internet/tv/gaming time!?

When you have identified what the problem is, a caring parent or teacher will be able to help you think of a solution that includes books!. Don't give up on reading and books, they are wonderful things that can teach you an awful lot and provide countless hours of enjoyment!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Improving your reading comprehension does not mean picking up War and Peace!. In fact, you don't even have to read a book!. Reading comprehension is the measurement of how well you understand what you are reading!. You can improve this with any type of literature!. Hobbies are a good way to do this!. Say you like video games!. Go to your local Walmart, pick up a magazine on video gaming and read an article!. Then, try to summarize it!. Have someone who is good at English look it over and walk you through any mistakes!.
This also works with films, believe it or not!. Watching a movie and then discussing and summarizing it can actually help you understand the Elements of plot and other literary devices!. Some people have an easier time learning to comprehend literature better this way!. Once you are an expert and doing this visually, move on to short works and then to longer ones if needed!.
Now, speed reading is difficult!. To improve your reading speed, there are a few things you can do!. One, read more!. Since you don't read much this is probably why you feel you need to increase your speed!. Two, you can sink tons of money into a speed reading program that may or may not work!. That is all I know to do!.

also, I would be interested to know what books you have tried to read!? Certainly you could finish a short story, right!? How far do you get before you just give up!? Maybe you just haven't found the right genre or you are reading under the wrong circumstances!. I like to cook but I hate reading about cooking, for example!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

IK you said not to read books that you would enjoy, but honestly that's all you have to do!.
Would you rather read romance, or mystery!?
Thought provoking or fantasy!?

Some good series/books you could try:
Twilight series (Stephanie Meyer)
Harry Potter series (J!.K!. Rowling)
Eragon (Inheritance series) (Christopher Paolini)
Pretty Little Liars (series)
Uglies Series (by Scott Westerfeld)
Tangled Up in You and Not Another Bad Date (by Rachel Gibson)
The A-list series (Zoey Dean)
I'll think of some more and let you know!.
I personally LOVE reading!. It's all about what you find interesting and what you want to read!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can't make yourself like reading!. Period!. However, many non-readers have either been forced by family, or had to read a book as an assignment and they get hooked!. So, in truth, the only advice that can be given is to aim for books you think you will enjoy!.Maybe you should work on your ability to complete things in general first!. Or is it just books!? If so, reading just may not be your thing!. Try setting goals, like doing chapter summaries or something!. Honestly, I can't say I think you have ever read a book you enjoyed!. If you had, you would have to want to know how it ends, therefore you would have finished it!.
In saying that, I suggest you start a series!. Several books, that way you will want to know the outcome!. What happens to the characters will be important to you!. Some books I have read have seriously become a part of my life!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Do you like to watch movies!? Play video games!? Listen to music!? What sort of genres do you like in those areas!? Action, drama, or comedy!? If i were you, i would look for books that were similar to a certain movie or game or song you liked!. For example: if you liked watching Star Wars i would suggest that you pick up a sci-fi book or even Star Wars book (they do make them)!. Any topic that interests you, will help you increase your interest in literature!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

fine, i wont tell you to read books you enjoy
go find books that you enjoy
then you can read them
or
begin small, with short stories or books that are made into movies so you already know the plot
try different genres so you can figure out what you like and don't like
humorous books are good to start with
ask the librarian or friends for helpWww@QuestionHome@Com

It's difficult for those of us who love to read to comprehend someone that doesn't like to read!. I am the oldest of six children and neither of my parents or my sisters or brother really like to read!. I was always considered to be the "oddball" and my Mom said reading would never get me anywhere!. Well, I just had my first novel accepted and I am so excited!. It may never be a bestseller and I may never make a million dollars but it sure makes me feel good!.

It is commendable that you are WANTING to read!. My suggestion !.!. pick something that you think you really might like to read !.!. or something that you just think you wouldn't hate!. What video games to you lean toward!? What do you like to talk about!? Maybe Sci Fi or Mysteries!? Horror!? Find whichever type of book you think you could possibly get through!. Don't pick a 500-page novel to start out with!. Start small!. Throw yourself into the story!. As you begin to read, try to choose a character that you think you could identify with!. IMAGINE yourself being that character and whatever happens to him could be happening to you!. I will do this a lot!. I imagine my ho-hum, mundane life becoming as exciting as this particular person's !.!. even if just for the short time that I am reading!. It is just kind of a get away from my ordinary world!. You will start to see that as you read more your vocabulary and spelling will improve also!. You will learn things that you won't learn in school !.!.!.even from fiction books!. It can be pretty exciting if you allow it to be!. Good luck to you!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You could try short stories!. Our you could just start out with children's stores and picture books!. They'll be really easy but they might get you to enjoy reading!. (I've always been a fan of children's books!.) Have you ever read the Fudge series by Judy Bloom!. They're really funny!. Or how about The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!. That's a really good book!. They're all children's books!. Anyway it won't help with your reading comprehension but maybe you will enjoy them!. They'll be easy reads and they're relatively short!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

That's too bad!. You're missing out!. I love reading books I enjoy!. Maybe you should try shorter fiction, like short stories!. It could be you just have a low attention span or no patience at all!. Or if you dislike narrative, try non-fiction!. Good luck!.
