Question: Writing my first novel, help with publishing!!?
I am just 15 years old!.

So here I'm currently at the brainstorm-and-research portion of my first novel!. I know it's too early to ask, but I need to!. I'm trying to see if this attempt will fit in my three year time frame of getting it done!.

Let's look forward to the day that I'm almost finished and just finishing up the last chapter of my novel!.

Let's pretend that I have just finished it!.

I plan to start with a very low-key publishing house!. That being said, approximately, how much time should I expect to have it published if it's good enough for a low-profile publishing house!.

Notes:
----I don't need the profits from the book!. I just need it for my Ivy School application, it's pretty neat to have written a book before college!. It would be a Mutualism between me and the publishing house!.

----I probably will not have a share of the books profits, I'll just ask the publishing house for the editor's work to be paid and the other expenditures!.

Do you think my second note the one with "having no share" will them want to take my manuscript more!? I mean it's for free the profit is all theirs!

But that's not the most important question for this case!.!.!.!.!.!.

Here is

Do you think a three year time frame for a beginner is plausible!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I hardly know where to start delving into the depthless pile of arrogance that you have arrayed before us!.

First of all, looking forward to that shining day when you have accomplished your adolescent masterpiece is probably a lot more rewarding for you than it is for anyone else!. You, after all, can believe in it!. The reason you can believe in it is because you have been raised and educated in a time which likes to insist that everyone is wonderful and special and that each person can have whatever thing they dream of, with no more effort than just the dream!.

Next, be aware that many small presses, which you characterize as "low-key" and "low-profile", are actually among the most prestigious and demanding in terms of quality!. They rarely touch the work of callow youth unless the callow youth happens to be a literary boy genius, which I sincerely doubt is the case with you, since you seem to see writing as a simple tool to make you appear as one!. That lack of understanding and respect for the art is enough to assure me that you can write until the cows come home and you'll never have a published book without someone having written a big check for its production!.

Try getting over yourself!. Try finding something that you care about and are actually good at!. Try realizing that Ivy League prep is going to take a fair amount of energy in itself!. If you really believe you can toss off a novel worthy of publishing in your spare time I'm amazed by your confidence but I doubt your veracity, and I dislike your apparent contempt for the craft of writing!.

I think that the 3 year time frame is very possible!. My brother just wrote a novel of 67, 594 words in about 3 months!. As far as publishing goes, try lulu!.com you might like it, its a selfpublishing site!. Other than that just google different publishing companys they usually have their publishing guidelines posted somewhere!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Three years is enough time but it really depends on how much time you can devote to writing!. (And how good you are!) Are you a member of a writing group!? If not, look into that asap!. They will provide you with peer editing, advice, suggestions, even help with publishing!. It will cost you, some have a monthly fee others have a nominal annual fee!. By the way, Good Luck! chances are, your first novel is going to suck ******* ***, but youll never get better at writing if you don't write!.

Just write!. A truly good novel will basically publish itself!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You keep asking this question, not so much for advise but to try to prove your theory to yourself that you will somehow impress an ivy league school with your "genius"

1 - they will NOT be impressed with a self published book
2 - they won't be impressed with the type of "low key" publisher you think wants your work (that kind of publisher is called a vanity press for a reason)
3 - it is plainly obvious that you are very uninformed about legitimate publishing companies if you think turning down the"profits" to pay the editor for his services is going to secure publication (that's just outright laughable)

Ivy league schools are far more impressed by your GPA and types of extracurricular activities and awards you receive (education or community related)!. You have three years to work on that!.

Have you not talked to a college prep counselor at all!? Or do you think you can skate into harvard solely on the merits of your "winning personality" and this "novel" you think you are going to write!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Wow! The Vet really slammed you with his final comments!. I have to agree w/ him to a degree, however!. You come across as cold & calculating!. You don't give any impression of passion for the art & craft of writing!. Instead you seem to use the idea of publishing @ an early age as an edge for college application reviews!. There would be nothing wrong in telling prospective colleges that you are in the final stages of writing your novel & are looking forward to the challenge of finding a literary agent who will connect you to a publisher!.

The comments about not caring for the money was off-putting to say the least!. The majority of authors make very little to begin w/, especially first time authors!. you give the impression of noblesse oblige, as though you were throwing pennies to the peasants!. It goes beyond amateurish!. It's insulting to authors out there who are writing because it's their life blood!.

You would do well to fill your resume w/ descriptions of volunteer work!. Colleges may be more impressed w/ a humble personality described w/ humility!. You can fake those descriptions better than writing a book!. Who knows, maybe some of it will rub off on you!. As of now you sound like a rich spoiled kid!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think a three year time frame for a beginner to write and get an agent is plausible!.

Even after acceptance by a publisher it can take up to two years for the work to hit the presses, assuming this is a legitimate publisher regardless of size!.

Finally, with rare exception (frequently to the detriment of the would be author) people your age rarely get published at all!. Not because of any flaw in their writing, it may be pristine, but because most people really don't care enough about what a teenager has to say about the world!. So it goes!.

Work on your novel to your hearts content, and good luck with it!. But you will not have a publishing credit on your college application!. (Unless, you pay for it, and then you won't want them to know about it!.)

And yes, not only was it too early to ask but it was ill-informed, immature, and slightly offensive to ask!.

add---> I never assumed you had money, just that you were naive and ignorant!. I'll stick by those assumptions!. But good luck to you, if three years from now your plan has succeeded I give you my congratulations!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
