*I know this is very long, but it says a lot you need to know!.!.!.*

If you want to pay for publication (a process formerly called 'vanity press,' now called 'self-publication'), you are free to do so!. A great many 'houses' that do vanity press can be found around any writers' site online, like http://www!.writerscafe!.org !.
Know, however, that if you do this, you will need capital and knowledge about how to promote your book, because in self-publication, money isn't given to you, it's taken, and no one promotes your book except you or perhaps a monied backer who knows what he/she is doing in book promotion!.

Suggest you take the high (and often difficult) road, and opt for normal publication, the kind where the money comes to you, not away from you!. This is best done by studying The Writer's Market, current edition, first section, which is all about the steps taken to publish correctly!.

First be sure your book is the very best you can make it!. Revisions are usually necessary to reach that point!. An editor or other trusted and knowledgeable person who can proof-read for you is a big plus, as most of us miss a few errors in spelling, grammar, consistency, etc!.

Learn about copyright, an important first thing to know!.
Learn about agents, and who is reputable in the field of children's books!.
Learn about queries, and why they are not sent to anyone who does not take unsolicited queries!.
Learn how to write a great query!.
Study all the aspects of getting published!.

The Writer's Market includes copyright information, examples of 'good' and 'bad' queries, synopses, proposals; tips from experts in every field; online sources to check reliability and integrity of agents and publishers, and much more!.
You can look at parts of what this book offers online through the link below:
http://www!.writersmarket!.com and join that source for $3!.99 a month, to read it all and always know any updates!.

If you can't afford the book or the online form, suggest you study it at a public library, making copies of relevant pages and making notes!. Study it a lot!. Be thorough, patient, persistent, remain positive through the rejections we all get, and!.!.!.
Best of luck!.
ADD: Never send a complete manuscript to a random list of publishers unless you like getting it right back!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

first u need to write it second u send a draft to the publisher that u want the book to be published under then if they like the idea they send u back the draft and tell u to fix some errors, if they dont then they write a letter to u saying"it sucked" (nicer than that of course) if it is liked u fix the problems and it goes on and on for 6 months to 3 years until your book is published maybe less depending on how good of a writer you are

U DO NOT PAY A PENNY TO PUBLISH YOUR BOOKS NO ONE EXCEPT THE PUBLISHER PAYS DEPENDING ON THE STORY WROTE ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO JUST PUBLISH A BOOK OUT OF THE CLEAR BLUE(out of nowhere) THERES A CONTRACT SAYING THEY OWN URE BOOK AND HOW U GET 50% PERCENT OF THE MONEY EARNED ETC!. SO THE PERSON WHO ANSWERED ON TOP OF ME U R NOT THE BRIGHTEST LIGHTBULB!!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Publishing your own book is called vanity publishing - and it does cost to do that and can be quite a bit!. If you want to self-publish that's the way to go, but you'd have to market it yourself!.

See the link below for info on getting into publishing market:
http://www!.writing-world!.com/publish/ind!.!.!.

And just to comment on the two above posters - no, you don't get straight 50% either!. You earn royalties for each book sold, and the agreement would be part of the negotiated contract!. And every contract is different!. Imagine the difference in the agreements between JK Rowling and a first-time author!.

Do online research, don't just ask question here!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
