Question: How to get a story put together to write a novel!?
I have been trying, for as long as I can remember, to write a book or novel!. I have an over-arching theme in mind, as well as settings and characters!. Unfortunately, it incorporates the elements of several books (some of which have been made into movies) and the characters within them!. Les Miserables, The English Patient, Elizabeth (1 and 2), Pride and Prejudice, The Duchess, The Count of Monte Cristo, etc etc etc!.
I want to have original content, but don't know how to differentiate what I want to write from all these well-known and oft-copied stories and themes!. Any suggestions!? Words of Wisdom!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

You're stretching yourself too far!. Your settings and characters are too expansive for an inexperienced author such as yourself!. You should put your idea on hold, then begin a new project!. Such as this for example:

All these books are in the public domain!. Why not try a practice novel, by taking ONE of these books, and spinning it on its head!. Say for instance, Pride and Prejudice using vampires or sorcerers!.

Once you get used to starting, writing, and finishing a novel, then you can go back to your original project!. You'll be more experienced, and able to recognize what needs to be junked, and what needs to stay!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
