Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Any Monica McInerney book is good (Spin the Bottle, Odd One Out, Those Faraday Girls, The Alphabet Sisters, Family Baggage, A Taste for it and Inside Out, Upside down!. His humanity is touching as he relates the sweet childhood memories which sustained him in the darkness of an isolation cell!. His candor is enough to make the reader wince, as Baca details the abuse and abandonment which were the more typical aspects of that same childhood!. He straightforward in describing the horrors of American prison life and his own horror at the violence that life produced in himself!. By his own admission he is no saint, but Jimmy Santiago Baca is undeniably a proud survivor!. It is no wonder that so many poor and socially oppressed people in the Southwest, in America and across the world revere him!. He is one of them, with a strong voice, clear and unyielding!. A Place to Stand is one of the great prison writings, and one of the great spiritual-literary stories of our time!. We all need to know Jimmy Baca's story!. "Catch-22", maybe not the best book for a younger reader, but hilarious!. 2!. "To Kill a Mockingbird", a classic!. 3!. "Animal Farm", short, but very thought provoking 4!. "Nicholas and Alexandra", a long history book, but very good reading!. I am a historian, but I like how this book is written almost like a novel!. Beware, it has a very sad ending!. 5!.
