He rarely said anything in Act 1 so I am not very sure about his motivation!? also he seems to be joining Procter one second and change his mind later, and he seems to be pro with witchcraft with the case of her wife but then I am not really sure!. I'm in my school's production of The Crucible!

Giles Corey is not a bad man, but his main motivation, especially in Act I, is land and money (which were pretty much the same thing back then)!. Here's the proof: he condemns Parris for asking the parishioners for a larger salary, and we find out that he is always suing everyone!. He also accuses Putnam of trying to take away his north pasture!.

As for changing his mind all the time, I think that's just because he's not very smart!. This is also the reason why he asks Hale the questions about his wife; he is simply curious and is probably imagining things, and since he's not smart, he doesn't realize that he could be getting his wife in trouble!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
