Question: Question for people who have read The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand!?
I am only 17 pages into the book, but I'm already immensely annoyed by the main character, Harold Roark!. From what I gather, he is tied into Rand's philisophy of objectivism and "ego" but his character is so unbelievably unrealistic and wooden, I can't enjoy reading about him!.

I am curious as to what other's thinkWww@QuestionHome@Com

I agree with you!. The Fountainhead is usually at the top of "Best Classic Book" lists, but this is because of the cult following that Rand has!. Rand felt that selfishness and lack of emotion for others were actually good qualities, and this resonates throughout her work!. Wait to you see what Howard does in Chapter 2!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

It took me six months to read this book, I usually read a book the same length in about 2 days!. I know it is supposed to be a classic but I hated it!. I found the characters, especially Roark to be completely unbelievable!. There wasn't s single character that I could sympathize with and that made the book interesting for me!.
I like to read 'classic' books, but sometimes I'm left wondering what it is that made them classic!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The character's name is actually Howard, not Harold, but yes, he's not a very sympathetic or realistic character!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
