In the book Lord of the Flies written by William Goulding, Jack and his tribe used face paint!. denotation: a face paint was used as a camouflage as they hunt pigs and also to separate himself from Ralph's tribe!.

connotation: It is as if they're wearing a mask of anonymity!. Since they're stranded on an uninhabited island, there are no adults supervising them, which lets everyone be whoever they want!. In the beginning of the novel, Jack and his tribe were allowing Ralph be the leader, but as Jack become more "savage" he becomes separated from the group!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
