I know that it explains in the series that she doesnt remember because she was always in the dark and she doesnt even remember herself changing from human to vampire!. could someone please explain to me why this is, and what does it mean that she was always in the dark!? Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Alice was locked in an asylum and given the shock treatment for most of her life!. She was kept in the dark and in constant pain for the duration of her asylum days!. The transformation felt no different, therefore, there was no differentiation!. By the end of the shock treatment, she'd forgotten most of her human life!. The pain and venom of the transformation just sort of destroyed any possibility of any memories!. EDIT: Okay, the asylum (a place where they put people who had mental health issues; an insane asylum) was because of her visions!. The book never specified who put her there, just that someone did!. The visions she had frightened people in the early 1900's!. The shock treatment was pretty much the modernized Salem Witch Trial conviction method!. It was an attpempt to either rid you of your ailment, rid you of whatever was 'possessing' you, or kill you!. She was kept in the dark because they were afraid she'd have too many visions if she could see clearly (that's my assumption!. Shock treatments, you are literally shocked because they thought shocking you would make you stop seeing the future, in Alice's case!. I imagine they thought she was lying!. They (her family presumably) put her in there for her visions, they thought she was crazy!.!.!.not that she was seeing the future!. Shock treatment was and still is used to try and 'fix' the damaged brain!.
