Falnang's details aren't quite right, but her opinions on the treatment of women is spot on!.

The book chronicles the relationship between Mary Boleyn, her sister Anne and Henry VIII!. The book starts with Henry being married to Katherine (his first wife and a Spanish princess), who has borne him one child - a daughter - to survive and who had several miscarraiges and infants that died early!. Henry, a ladies man, became smitten with Mary Boleyn, whose family encouraged the affair!. She bears two children to Henry, a daughter and then a son!.

Meanwhile, Anne returns to the English court and is jealous of the relationship between Mary and Henry!. She pretty much seduces Henry while Mary is in childbed, and (eventually) becomes Henry's second wife, after much scheming, including adopting Mary's children so that Henry has a "legal" heir!. She soon bears Henry another child, also a girl, and has several miscarriages afterwards as well!. Henry, desperate for a male heir, soon tires of Anne and searches for a way to get rid of her and make the way for wife #3, which will hopefully give him the son he desperately desires!. Mary has moved on from her relationship with Henry and marries another man for love - not position!. Anne and Mary make peace with each other, but Anne is beheaded!.

I haven't seen the movie, but from what I have heard, only one child of Mary's is in the movie, while the book includes two children!.

Although featuring historical characters and events, the author took some poetic license with the events!. Check out the articles below for more details:Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've read the book, but haven't gotten around to seeing the movie

Pretty much the book is about Anne Boleyn's younger sister, Marie, and her affair with King Henry VII!. The king has married his brother's queen, who cannot bear any more children than the one that she already has, which is a daughter, and isn't Henry's!.
Marie's family pressures her into having an affair with King Henry--while she's still married, though her husband dies of yellow fever or something of the sort-- and ends up having his son and daughter!. While she's recovering, Anne steps in and marries the King once he divorces his first wife!. Marie is left on the sidelines, a widow and a nobody!.
Anne gets beheaded in the end!.

It was actually a good book, if not a pretty hard read!. Sometimes I lost interest, but I've had much worse!.
On my views on how women were treated--they were treated like trading cards-like Pokemon or something!. Men thought "I'll trade this one for this, and that one for that" kind of thing!. They weren't high on the power list, and they were used more as strategy for the throne than as wives or people!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
