Question: Trying to remember the title of an old children's book!.!?

I'm trying to remember the title of a book I read when I was younger!. It was written mid-90s or earlier and is about a boy who gets lost on his family's farm in a storm and ends up being adopted by a family of badgers!. I don't remember much more but I know he does make his way back home by the end and I think one of the badgers is killed by a family member or friend of the family!.!.!.something like that!.
