Question: Can someone tell me a good book series that I would like!? I like fantasy fiction!.!?
I would like something mature and interesting!. Even something hard to follow!. I like a long book!. I really loved Tolkien's books, and Christopher Paolini!. Any ideas!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
If you want Mature and interesting i would recommend the First Law Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie!. I just finished it and LOVED it!. Its very dark with a lot of action and intrique!. Its not really for the faint of heart though (one of the main characters is a torturer for a living---and the book is descriptive) I also like how it has a dark sense of humor and complex characters!. The story is told from several view points so its a bit complex but its neat to see how all the stories weave together into one big picture!.\

Another good fantasy series is the Gentleman Bastard Series by Scott Lynch!. The first two The Lies of Locke Lamora and Red Skies Over Red Seas are already out (there should be 5 more eventually)!. Its a great book with a lot of fun plot twists---Think Pirates of the Caribean combined with Oceans 11!. Its about a bunch of theives and con artists and has a lot of humor!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

If someone suggests Twilight, ignore them :L!. Seriously, they're good for a quick read but they're not really meaningful at all!.

Umm, it's more Sci-Fi but the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld is awesome :)

Good Fantasies include:

Tolkien's Silmarillion is amazing though you might have read it :)!.

The Wardstone Chronicles/The Last Apprentice by Joseph Delaney are pretty good, though they are children's books!.

The Pellinor books by Alison Croggon are pretty immense and definately worth a read!.

Harry Potter is pretty much not worth mentioning as nearly everyone has read it but!.!.!. :L If you haven't then :O :L

Hope some of those take your fancy :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ender's Game, Orson Scott Card (series)
Homecoming Saga by Orson Scott Card

Nomadin and NiDemon by Shawn Cormier

The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke (I think it's a series)!.

Elfshadow (Forgotten Realms: Songs and Swords, Book 1) by Elaine Cunningham

Adept Series by Katherine Kurtz and Deborah Turner Harris !.

Gunslinger series, Stephen King!.

Her Majesty's Wizard by Christopher Stasheff (book 1)
!.
Reflections in the Nile, Shadows on the Aegean, Sunrise on the Mediterranean, Twilight in Babylon by Suzanne FrankWww@QuestionHome@Com

You MUST read Douglas Adams Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, in this order!.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
Life, the Universe, and Everything
So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish
Mostly Harmless

Read those first, if you like them, read anything by Terry Pratchett!. You can skip his first two books, they're a little boring and these don't have to be read in any order!. Come back to them after you've read some of his more interesting ones!. I would recommend starting with Mort, then Reaper Man, then Hogfather!. Those are my favorites!.

Both authors are very funny and I htink you would enjoy them immensely!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Saga of Darren Shan!. (by Darren Shan)!. They're vampire books and there are twelve of them!. Although I guess you'd put them in a similar league as Harry Potter, adults do enjoy Harry Potter!. The books are very interesting and thought provoking!. I couldn't put them down!. They are well worth looking at, even if you think they may not be mature enough for you!.

The plot basically is that a boy named Darren becomes a half-vampire in order to save his best friend's life!. His best friend turns against him and becomes a vampire hunter!. There are many more elements to the book, and it's not just about that though!. Darren has to fake his death so that he isn't followed!. He has to leave his family forever and learn the ways of being a vampire!.

The film is coming out in 2009 :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Last Unicorn by Peter Beagle -- mature and VERY good

The Sight by David Clement-Davies -- if you're not afraid of a little anthropomorphism, this is great

His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman (starts with The Golden Compass) -- If you're looking for something hard to follow, this is it, haha!. Good ideas and characters

The Firebringer series by Meredith Pierce (I think) -- kids' books, but I liked themWww@QuestionHome@Com

Hi !
The Ghormenghast trilogy by Mervyn Peake ;
http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Gormenghast!.!.!.
TitusGroan
Gormenghast
TitusAlone
http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Titus_Groan!.!.!.

Plot introduction
The book is set in the huge castle of Gormenghast, a vast landscape of crumbling towers and ivy-filled quadrangles that has for centuries been the hereditary residence of the Groan family and with them a legion of servants!.
At the beginning of the novel, two agents of change are introduced into the stagnant society of Gormenghast!.
The first, more obvious agent of change is Titus Groan, the heir to Lord Sepulchrave, the seventy-sixth Earl of Groan!. His birth interrupts the daily rituals which are practiced at all levels of the castle society, from the kitchens to the Hall of Bright Carvings in Gormenghast's upper reaches!. However, the novel only covers the first two years of Titus' life, and he plays a minor role!.
The second is Steerpike, a ruthlessly ambitious kitchen boy, who is the driving force for the plot of Titus Groan!. His entry into Gormenghast society, at the same time as Lord Titus is born, introduces a steady rate of change into a stagnant world!.

Plot summary
The second book follows the story of Titus from the age of seven to seventeen!. As the novel opens Titus, as the 77th earl and lord of Gormenghast, dreads the life of pre-ordained ritual that stretches before him!. Barquentine as Master of Ritual, and Steerpike his apprentice, are seen by Titus as the embodiment of all he wants to rebel against!.

http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Titus_Alone
Plot summary
The story follows Titus' journey in the world outside Gormenghast Castle, having left his home at the end of the second book!.
Finding himself lost, he suddenly discovers exactly how outdated his home really was, as he stumbles into a city of strange technological marvels, of shimmering metal and glass buildings, whose inhabitants travel by motorcar and airplane — and yet which also houses an entire culture of outcasts beneath the city itself in the "Under-River"!. The book also includes themes more usual to dystopian science fiction, such as marked inequality of wealth and involuntary euthanasia, and in many ways anticipates the steampunk genre!.
