Question: Why won't my mum let me read those books!?
ok my mum won't let me read these book's she's classified as 'disturbing'!. i recently got into some book's that i enjoy reading called damaged about this foster carer who has fostered this eight year old girl who had a bad past it has some explicit information she doesn't like me reading!.

i like those kinds of books and she said i can't buy them any more!. there is another book by cathy that i want!.
i e-mailed cathy the author saying that i know i'm only fifteen but i read your books and i really like them, and you are doing a great job with the kid's you foster to my suprise she e-mailed me back saying that she has readers as young as twelve reading her book's
so why can't i!?
i don't think i'm too young to read those sort's of books
how do i tell her that!?
convince her!?

Your mom is doing her best!. She loves you and wants you to be healthy and happy!.

Talk to a librarian about it, and see what they can tell you to tell your mom!.

See if you can make a deal with your Mom to read 5 approved books and then one she is a bit worried about!.

Try getting her to read the book that you have already read, and then talk to her about it - what did you like, what did she like, what did you not like, what did she not like!. You may be able to show her that you are getting the message out of books like that that she wants you to!.

Good Luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No book, no matter how disturbing or truthful it may be, should ever be banned or kept from someone (the public)!. That is the beginning attitude that will destroy literature and all of its meaning!. Your mom should see some of the stuff I read and enjoy!. She'd think I'm a heathen, and I'm a straight A student, do not cause trouble, and want a life teaching literature, even the "disturbing" stuff!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just as you can't feed a child chili peppers ,
So some reading is too advanced for some minors !.
Every young person I've met , makes false interpretations because they do not have the feedback or guidance to understand it !.

If you believe there is legit info , have your teachers make it a class book or
Have your library staff put in on the reading group discussion list !.
Then you'll have someone who can explain things that you would otherwise get wrong !.

well i like those sorts of books, and my mom doesnt realy apprive of them either, but she still lets me read them!. because reading is good for you it gives you education no matter what your reading!. tell your mother, that it doesnt matter what you read as long as you do your gaining from it!. so much actually you dont even realize it!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

you Mom is doing what she thinks is best for you!. honestly there is very little you can do to convince your mom to "let" you read it!.
my parents forbade me to read star wars because it has demonic influences in it!.
I had to wait till i was out of the house when i was 19 to read them again!.

I think you should just explain to her why you like those books!. If she still says no then ask her why so maybe you could get into some books that she does like!. Just don't bug her 24/7 about it cuz then she'll think your not mature enough yet!. try to handle this situature maturely and maybe she'll change her mind
--------------> hope i helped =]=] by the way Twilight is a VERY good book to read =]=]Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your mum is doing what she thinks is best, its not always the way you see it, confront her, tell her you WANT to read them, as they are interesting books, not because of the 'explicit stuff'

oh and end with,
YOU CANT HIDE ME FROM THE WORLD FOREVER

You're fifteen and I'm sure you'll figure out some way of reading them anyway!. Now that your mom has told you she doesn't want you reading it, you want to read it more, right!?

Parents never quite understand that things that are declared "off-limits" are often the things their kids will want to do most!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you think you need to ask people on here why your mum won't let you read these books, you're probably not old enought to read them!.

Why not try reading them at the library, or reading them only at school!?

Don't worry, one or both of you will grow out of it!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i would not have a problem with you reading this sort of material after all sadly its what goes on in this bad world!.i think your mum is just trying to protect you from the evils that some people do to their children!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Tell your mom that i am big enough to know what to imply on my life from what i read, and enough to know what i need to read just for fun!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think at 15 you should be able to choose your reading material as long as it isn't porn or violent!.
Show the email to your mum and tell her you need to learn about the world !.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Whilst you live in her house, she calls the shots!. When you move out and pay your own way, you can read what you like!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What is name of the book!?!?!?!?!?!?
You didn't describe, thus mean the book is really disturbing, that you even don't want to reveal!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

you should be aloud to read them but they are upsetting and include abuse that is disturbing so i can see why she wont let you im 15 too and the book upset me!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

She told you that your not aloud to buy them, So!.!.!.
Go to the libary and take one out or borrow one of your mates!
She only said you couldn't buy them!

if you read more then you may realise that you are using all those apostrophes incorrectly and so improve your grammar!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

at the age of fifteen you should be able to choose your own books to read !. Dont let your mom stop you from reading !. Www@QuestionHome@Com

let her look at the book she probably he read something bad about it from someone let her check them out Www@QuestionHome@Com

punch her in the face
Www@QuestionHome@Com

more info needed
what kind of disturbing is it!?!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

You don't say what books you're talking about so it's hard to answer a question without more information than you give!.

However, regardless of whether or not the material is appropriate for you, you mother doesn't want you reading it and as long as you live in her house, under her rules, then you are bound by them!. It would be disobedient for you to read something against her wishes!.

I would suggest, however, that you sit down with her and try to get her to explain her reasoning to you and then maybe, if you listen calmly to her without arguing, she will then listen to you when it comes your time to speak and you will be able to help her understand why you want to read those particular books!. If she still says no, then you will have to wait until you are an adult and have the freedom of choice!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

To a certain extent I can understand where your mum is coming from!. She's just trying to protect you from the "horrors of the world"!

"Damaged" deals with some pretty hard hitting subject matter, for example, sexual abuse!. I'm sure a lot of parents would be worried about their children reading about such a thing!. Your mum might feel it's too "adult" a subject matter, she may worry incase it's too graphic!. It could even be that she feels it's a "taboo" subject and is worried incase you want to chat to her about things in the book and she doesn't feel comfortable about it!.

Personally, I don't think you're too young to read the book, or others like it!. They're factual books, not sensationalised fiction!.
Unfortunately, horrible things happen in the world and kids these days are finding that out younger and younger!.!.!. never mind the kids who are actually living in the situations!.

I think at fifteen, you're old enough and responsible enough to cope with reading books like "Damaged"!. There's enough people in the world walking around blinkered, ignoring all the horrible things that happen every day around them!.!.!. don't be one of them!

Ignorance is not bliss!.!.!. knowledge is power!! ;-)
