When I was in 5th grade, I read the book "Where the Red Fern Grows"!. It is a very touching book, and it will always be one of my favorites!. It is about a boy and his 2 dogs!. If you're looking for something a little bit more happy, you could try "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing"!. It is a humorous book that I read sometime in elementary school!. Hope this helps :) !. You could also try "A Series of Unfortunate Events" by Lemony Snicket, which is an EXCELLENT set of books; it's mostly a mystery!. I absolutely loved the series, and there is a movie for the first 3 books :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Follow My Leader by James B!. Garfield!. I read it many years ago in 5th grade (I think my whole class fell in love with it!.) It is about a boy learning to use a seeing eye dog and it is a wonderful, well written tale!.

You might also want to get started with Lemony Snickett!. These are more recent and readily available!. The movie was a bust, but the series of books is hilarious!
