Question: Query/cover letter: What comes first- the synopsis or background info!?
I'm writing a query letter to a literary agent who wants a brief synopsis of my manuscript and some other information about me personally!.

In the letter, should the synopsis go before everything else (before personal info/ dialogue with agent), or at the end before the contact info!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

In general, you want the synopsis first!. You want the agent to be interested in your work, so showcase that at the beginning!. Next, write about why you think your work is a good fit for this agent!. Finally, give your personal info!.

Those are the mechanics!. Now, make these three pieces brief, informative, and interesting!

You're best off putting a short tag line (one to two sentences max synopsis) first, then a one paragraph synopsis, and then any information about yourself that's relevant (if it's non-fiction, your credentials for writing the topic of your book, and if it's fiction, any awards you've won)!. Your contact information should also be listed at the very top of the page in letter-format, rather than included toward the bottom!.

Agent Query (http://agentquery!.com/writer_hq!.aspx) has a lot of information about writing query letters, along with a ton of agents you can submit them to!. Hope this helps, and best of luck! :o)Www@QuestionHome@Com
