If the author has done their job and you love the character then it's a kind or mourning, so of course you feel sad and angry!. But if it furthers the plot and is done well then it can be a very brave thing to do and challenges the notion of the happily ever after!. It could make it more realistic!.
When J!.K Rowling killed one of the Weasley twins I was devastated, and at first got cross because it seemed such a waste, something that didn't need to happen!. Then I realised that it was a miracle none of Harry's loved ones had dies sooner, and that to have them all safe would have been unrealistic!. Death is a waste and it is never justifiable, so I came round in the end and started to understand that it made the book much more powerful!.

But if it's your main character, think carefully about how it will affect your plot and any future writing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Some will, some won't!. If you can make your readers give an emotional response, be it anger, grief or frustration, then you have done your job as a writer!. Try to remember that it doesn't matter HOW good you are, you won't be able to please all the people all the time!. If it feels right to you to kill your protagonist, then do it!.

I have a novel coming out next year where a woman holding a baby is knocked down by a cop involved in a high-speed pursuit!. Mother and child die!. I thought long and hard about whether or not to include the scene, and I fully expect that some people will hate me for it, but the truth is that it's a good, well-written scene that doesn't exploit the tragedy and earns it's place in the book!.

Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you really want to make the main character die then you must make it for a reason!. If he or she just dies from an accident sometimes readers will be too depressed or put out to continue!.
As long as you make their death worth something, either physically by having them save someone or something, or emotionally, by having the main character's life changed!.
It makes a good revenge plot!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yeah, readers do get angry when a character dies!. This is a good thing, because they've got a emotional attachment to a character!. People wont angirly chase you down the street with pitchforks and fire, I promise, if you kill a character!.
You cant kill one if it's on a whim!. It must be used to advance the plot of your story!. Otherwise, what's the point!?
I am a reader!. I dont get angry when a character dies!. I usually get a little bit emotional, though!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

i would be sad if the main character (i'm assuming he's a hero and not a villain) dies, but if in his death, something meaningful comes about or impacts something of great importance (for instance, in death he achieves something for a cause that would not have been possible were he alive and working for that cause) then that would be powerful!.
think about it!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I get pretty angry when the main character dies!. =/ But it depends on how good the writer is I suppose!. I would have your character die at the end of the serries!. Or at a point in time when the reader doesnt see it comming!. Though if your making a serries I would hold off on the killing ;) But if its just a "one book" type thing then yea go for it!. See how well you pull it off ^^ Www@QuestionHome@Com

I get angry if i get really into the book!. Not at the author or anyone, at the character that made them dye, or at god for letting them lol!

also what i see as a sign of a good book is when it can make you cry! I love it when i get heartbroken by a characters death, and it stays with me for ages!! Lol!

Usually, yes!.!.!. if the main character dies then the story's pretty much over, which does make people angry!. -!.-

If you want to kill a character, make it a side character that will deeply affect the protagonist but won't kill the story!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can't kill off the main character, that practically ends the whole thing, but you can kill off someone close to the main character, but people will probably be mad!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If it makes the story better, go for it!.

If a book makes me cry, then it is a good book for sureWww@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, which is pretty much the main reason why I almost exclusively read romance!.!.!. I like my HEA (happily ever after) or HFN (happy for now) endings a LOT better than tragedies!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't get angry!. If it's a character I really like, I'll probably cry!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
