I watched The Raven film!. I did not read "The Pit and the Pendulum," but I have read some Poe!. I have read "Self Reliance!." With romanticism, "Self Reliance" presents how one should rely on oneself and not those who are deemed more worthy because they have strong educations, are scientists/academics!. According to Emerson, this does not matter!. He actually wrote that one is or has their own genius and therefore should never count on the words of others!. Romanticism because it goes against the academics or scientific rationalization!. Is there a scientific rationalization for his belief--no!. He does not justify his claims through science but his own mind!.

With Poe's stories, just focus on the elements of romanticism--strong emotions, horror, awe, the sublime, etc!. As one previous poster said!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Romanticism is a literary movement!. The writers that are "Romantics" were acting out against the previously popular scientific, academic, cut-and-dry writing for more emotional, sublime work!. Romantics viewed every little things as a big "experience" (especially Emerson!) that appealed to the mind AND emotions!. Additionally, there was new focus on stories that would provide strong feelings, which is why Poe's horror stories become so noteworthy!. Don't be fooled by the name "Romantic!." Just because it's emotional, imagery-packed writing doesn't mean that it is lovey-dovey! Www@QuestionHome@Com
