Question: Would a writer get into any trouble if!.!.!.!.!.!?
Their stories were very similar to stories seen in television but in a different genre!?

For Example: Say someone took the story of Saving Private Ryan and transformed it into a SciFi or Fantasy take on it!. Such as instead of World War II it's a made up war between Orcs and Humans!. There's different characters and dialogue but similar in story!. Could the author get into any sort of trouble!? Now this is just an example, I'm jotting down ideas for my story and found out that one of my ideas was similar to a very old (1930's) movie, just different genre!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are also dozens of books and movies about the bad guys implanting the anti-Christ in a woman and while the next coming of Christ is being born and it's the churches job to locate and destroy/protect the wrong/correct kid!. Everyone right now is comparing all vampire books to Twilight and wizard stories to Harry Potter!. Dracula was the original bloodsucker and yet Anne Rice brought them into the present day culture and now we have teen Vamps!. Cool progression right!?
I was told by my linguistics teacher that nothing is new under the sun!. Every combination of words has been spoken before!. Always keep in mind that someone will try to tell you that your story sounds like someone else's and more likely than not somewhere a similar book/movie/television show/play or song already exists!. The great thing about there being so many books/movies is that so many authors have an opportunity to tell their version!. To put their twist on it, to make the characters and situations their own!. It sounds like a great idea and that it could be funny and entertaining!. Don't let whether it is a good premise or even an original idea slow you down or even worse stop you!. At all ages we have authors who come out of no where and dazzle us readers with the most wonderful of stories and no one especially the author knows who it will touch and how far it can go!. But as I've always been told, 'no one can read the book in your head!.'Www@QuestionHome@Com

Fatty,

No!. There are so many sequels to movies that have been box office hits, and they're based on the original story!. The same goes for books that have been best sellers!. As long as the characters have different names and the plot is different, there should be no problem!.

Check out For A Few Dollars More with Clint Eastwood and Lee VanCleef, and then The Last Man Standing with Bruce Willis!. They are both on the very same story line, but different names!. The plot is almost exactly the same!. I was amazed how so much alike the two movies were!.
