Question: TWILIGHT FANS AND HATERS!!!!?
My English teacher is holding a debate over the Twilight series and why it is/isn't a "classic" as so many people claim it to be!. What are your views on this subject!? I'd like to get some good points from one/both sides so that I am prepared for when the debate takes place!. Please leave well-thought-out answers!. I'm not one of those people who chooses the first answer I see as first!. I always choose the most thought-out and most thorough answer!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Twilight is not a classic!.
- A classic has to be well-written for one thing, to show a degree of skill!. Describing every single minute detail is grating, and does nothing for atmosphere!. It must also use the most suitable words for the job, not random words Meyer found whilst flicking through a dictionary!.

- A classic has to have a point!. What is the point of Twilight!? There isn't one!. It is merely an incohesive dream, poorly scribbled down without editing

- The writer of a classic ought to be knowledgable!. Shamlessly name-dropping classic titles, and explaining Animal Farm to us (in case some dipsticks really thought it was about cuddly little animals) does not show intelligence

- Classics must be well-thought out, and not scribbled off in a few months!.

- Good books are concise!. General rule- any book written in the 20th century plus and is more than 400 pages, forget it!.

-The characters have no personalities!. They are characterised solely by appearance and shallow faults like being clumsy, or a vampire!. No one should ignore Edward's severe psychological problems, and they do- so they become not faults!.

EDIT: There are tons of love stories that would wipe the floor with Twilight- Beauty and The Beast for one!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Personally, I don't think Twilight is a classic, though so many fans think it is!. The fandom is based upon Edward Cullen, who is an unrealistic character!. Reminds me of the Jonas Brothers- not that I hate them, but they aren't a "classic"!.

Classics, in my opinion, have a wide range of vocabuly, are well thought-through, great character developement, and have a main point!.

Twilight, does not have much desciption, or use of different words (most are short and repeated), was created in a very short amount of time just to please fans, does not have character developement, and has not real main point (unless you say Edward Cullen- not a good main point for a classic)!.

Twilight is a book meant for girls who are into guys, and nothing else!. It's not even good literature!.

Hope my answer helped and Twilight fans please do not take what I said personally!. Have a great day!!

Its a classic because of the true love behind it that never dies between Bella and Edward no matter the circumstances!. The fact that he's a vampire and isn't even suppose to be near her, but manages to work around, I find the beauty in it, because it shows that one true love factor!. You don't find love easily in life and this shows that their might still be hope out there, because people take those 3 little words "I love you" for granted so much and don't even realize the impact that set in, on someones life!. On the other hand why people will think its not a classic, is because Stephenie Meyer is a good writer, but shes not the best!. And the cliche of a vampire and a human being in love!. Yea shes not the best writer, but if you look beyond the whole vampire's history, and look at the whole love side to it, thats what makes it a classic!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've actually just started reading Twilight the other day, and I'm only halfway through, so not a hardcore fan or anything!. But I do think it is a brilliant book, a fascinating story and extremely well written - I've never read anything written like Twilight is, but I love the format!. I can't explain exactly what it is about it, possibly the intertwining use of formal and informal language!. It's casual but at the same time very fantastical, the storyline is captivating!.
I haven't even finished reading the book, and I'd call it a modern classic!Www@QuestionHome@Com

twilight it s great book i totally love it but it is not a classic!. classic books bring something new to the lituaere world!. twilight though a great book brings nothing Else its just another story about vampires if twilight is a classic then so is the night world series(sorry if you havent heard of it) vampire love storys are not classics they are great reads but not classics the only vampire classic is Dracula because it was well thought out and was something new!. A wide range of people love dracula from all different generations twilight is a love story that mostly only teenage girls love Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's more like a Hollywood Fad!. Would you say the O!.C!. as a T!.V!. show is an instant classic becuase people fell in love with the pouty lips of of older men playing young teenagers!? No that show was finally exposed as a hack job in Third season!.

Just like Twilight was exposed for a random hashed and slapped together love fantasy Fan fiction by the release of Breaking Dawn!.

also I'm a firm believer that classics are appreciated long after the author is gone and dead, not raved about for 4 years then forgotten!. A book thats main purpose is to get young teen girls to talk about how hot a fictional character is, is not a classic!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I enjoyed the series as an entertaining diversion, but definitely do not consider it a classic nor does it have the capacity to be considered one in the future!. It is too hasty and low-brow; I found it akin to a light romance novel!. In fact, it's rather reminiscent of pulp fiction, the junk food of the literary world - enjoyable, sweet, but not nourishing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I love the series!. It's fun, compelling and almost any age person can read it and enjoy it!. Here is the main point, It's not a classic!. Classics are older books!. It could be construed as a modern classic or have potential to be a classic some day but is is not yet one!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
