I used to encountered words in intalic form as I read non-fictional books, I am not sure about fictional and story books!. What do they mean when the make it italic (slanting words)!? If the word is in the language of the rest of the book, then yeah the writer might be using italics to put stress on that word!. Italics can also indicate the title of a book, movie, journal or magazine!. Most likely, the word is of foreign origin and the writer is emphasizing that so you know this!.
