I have just recently had my first novel accepted by a POD organization!. That means it is Print On Demand which is similar to a self-publishing company!. But I have never had them ask for any money up front!. Most "traditional" publishers will never ask you for any money of any kind but you are required to sign a contract !.!. traditional or self-publishing!. My novel will be available at places like amazon!.com and barnesandnoble!.com and I can also order my own copies to sell to friends, family, etc!. at an author's discount!. I am not really sure of age requirement (the contract did ask for my birthdate) but I think you may have to be 18!. I will get royalty checks twice a year!. Not sure if this answers some of your questions or not!. If you send to traditional publishers and get rejected (which I was many times) don't let it discourage you !.!. keep on keepin' on! Well, this is mostly a half guess half truth, but I think you can be any age to publish a book, but the older the more seriously you are taken!. It depends on your age, or you can create a pename!. For publishing a book, i think it's like, 40-80 dollars, maybe more, maybe less!. You may get paid , you may not!. It all counts on how well your book sells!.
