Don't laugh - while the technology does not permit it yet, I have my own methodology - which would give you an idea though not the exact number - in a practical amount of time!.

The idea has the following steps:
(1) Open any page where all the lines exist (no big chapter break ni the middle of the page etc)!.
(2) Count the total number of words in the first three lines manually!. Divide this number by 3!. Lets say, this number is 'a'!.
(3) Count the number of lines on the page!. Lets say this is 'b'!.
(4) Find out the number of pages in the book using page numbers given!. Lets say, that is 'c'!.
Now, the total number of words in the book is approximately:
(a x b x c)!.

If it is a web based book (such as WebLiterature!.Net free books - my favorite site - I shall give you the reference below) - then the above calculation does not apply and I really don't know of any practical way!.

Well what I do is I open the book to any page (a full page) and I count the number of words on that page!. I then check how many pages there are in the book and multiply the number of words I counted and the number of pages!. There you get the average number of words!. Hope that helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com
