Have you taken a look at Writers' Market!? It's a publication put out by Writers' Digest, a magazine devoted to writers and their craft!. Writers' Market is updated once a year, I think, and it's usually available at local libraries!. Check it out!.

One thing I might advise you is not to send your manuscript unsolicited!. Many publishers will not read unsolicited manuscripts!. There are books that help you with doing soliciting!. You usually have to do something like a synopsis and some sample writings!.

Above all, don't get discouraged! Some famous books were rejected many times by major publishers until they got their deal!. One of them was Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery!.

also, don't stop writing! You have one book under your belt, right!? So you know something about writing and what it takes!. I mean, most people don't even finish their novel!. So what you could do with your next work is do a synopsis and sample chapters and pitch it to publishers!. You can get a deal then write the book!. That way you don't just put all of this effort into this great work and not get published!. Sometimes people don't get their first work published, but they do get a later work published!. I think that Chuck Palahniuk was a case like that!. He was able thanks to his reputation for a later novel, Fight Club, to get an earlier novel published (Invisible Monsters)!.

I read Invisible Monsters after having read Fight Club, and I can tell you it was a good book!. It was worthy to be published, but he just didn't get it sold for some reason!. Maybe they thought Fight Club would sell better!. I don't know!.

Some people would advocate you getting an agent!. Maybe it's not a bad idea!. Again, Writers' Digest's books have information on that, and I think it's in Writers' Market!. Some people would say you should, but others would say it's not necessary!.

A brief look at the Chuck Palahniuk wikipedia article reveals that Palahniuk was not able to get an agent for his books until after he got Fight Club published!. So don't get discouraged!.

Feel free to email me!. I'd be curious to know what your novel is about!. It's also, I might add, important to know where the niche is for your work and who might publish it!. Is it a work of genre!? Or is it more "literary" (for lack of a better term)!.

Good luck to you! (And take everyone's advice with a huge grain of salt, including my own--some people are full of you know what)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

By far the most useful resource I have found on this subject is the Writers and Artists Yearbook!. Your library should have copies of it!. It should tell you everything you need to know about manuscripts, query letters, agents and publishers!.

Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com
