Question: HELP!! Lord of the Flies by William Golding !?
I need help on a homework question where I need to interpret a paragraph!. I need to circle 5 important words or phases the give the meaning or tell whats happening!. This is the paragraph on page 95!.

The figure fell and crumpled among the blue flowers of the mountain-side, but now there was a gentle breeze at this height too and the parachute flopped and banged and pulled!. So the figure, with feet that dragged behind it, slid up the mountain!. Yard by yard, puff by puff, the breeze hauled the figure through the blue flowers, over the boulders and the red stones, till it lay huddled among the shattered rocks of the mountain-top!. Here the breeze was fitful and allowed the strings of the parachute to tangle and festoon; and the figure sat, its helmeted head between its knees, held by complication of lines!. When the breeze blew, the lines would strain taut and some accident of this pull lifted the head and the chest upright so that the figure seemed to peer across the brow of the mountain!. Then, each time the wind dropped, the lines would slacken and the figure bow forward again, sinking its head between its knees!. So as the stars moved across the sky, the figure sat on the mountain-top and bowed and sank and bowed again!.

Please tell me what five things you circled!.
And does it mean something about fear coming to the island and that it's an outside connection!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
well the figure that this paragraph is talking about it a dead parachuter!. the significance of the outside connection is that the world outside of the island is at war, just as the island is at war, but the island has no civilization like the rest of the world does!. (i think)
i circled:
the breeze hauled the figure
through the blue flowers, over the boulders and the red stones
and the figure sat!.!.!.!.!.held by a complication of lines (that whole sentence)
some accident of this pull lifted the head and the chest upright
so as the stars!.!.!.!.!.sank and bowed again (whole sentence)

those are all important to the text, but they are also important b/c they demonstrate that nature can be cruel even to someone who is dead!. the dead body is forced around by the wind and hauled through the rocks!.
hope this helps!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com
