Question: Is this a good idea for writing!?
I hate typing my writing on the computer for some reason and I'd rather write in a notebook with a pencil!.!.!. Is it a good idea to write in a notebook and then type it, or just to type it!? I mean, just typing it is less of a hassle than writing in a notebook then typing it again, but you also can really edit your work and go over it by putting it on the computer after you've written it on paper!. (Sorry if that's confusing at all!.)

What should I do!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I love using notebooks - even more so now that I've gone more than a month with my computer in the shop!. There's just something special about seeing your own thoughts on paper in your own handwriting!.

If you have something really pressing in your mind that needs to get out FAST (like dialogue), go with typing!. For other things - descriptive passages, exercises, character planning, notes, phrases, drawings, plotting, etc!. - definitely use a notebook!.

I usually stick to your everyday spiral notebooks!. I like to write on only one side of the page, so that if I think of something else I need to add in, I can write it on the blank page facing it instead of squeezing it into the margins!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are no rules for composing whatever you're writing!. If you prefer to write originally in long hand and pencil, editing as you do so, then use that method!. The only problem, though, that I see with that concept is that, if you plan to write anything lengthy, it would be a tedious process, besides resulting in severe writer's cramp! You might try making your outline by the pencil and notebook scheme, then type when you begin producing your actual story or report!. If you are simply writing a short essay, for instance, your system would most likely work well for you, particularly if your hand written prototype has been proofread for errors!. Another point, though: if your spelling is suspect, the computer's spellcheck feature is essential to your editing of your work!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Whichever is easier for you to get your ideas flowing!. Plenty of published authors still write out their work and maybe hire someone to put it onto the computer, just like they had someone typing their written work in the past!.

Use whatever lets you be the most articulate and doesn't stifle your creativity!.

Universities are bemoaning that there are no longer any records of editing like there were when authors hand wrote their work!. You could see the scratch outs, the changed words!. the x'd out paragraphs!. Now it is all done on computer and the dropped stuff is dumped after the book/article is finished!. Isaac Asimov said he never tossed out anything he wrote!. He'd file it and maybe have just the place to use it another time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I always always always write with a pen and paper first!. I'm the exact same as you - I just can't write straight to computer, I like to feel the words coming from my hand!. Plus I think it definitely does give you the editing bonus, not just because you read it an extra time, but because you have to read it more carefully when you're transcribing it!. And you can make notes to yourself as you're going, of things you might change, alternative words you could use, places you want to come back to and redo, etc!.
Keep doing it that way! Especially if you have a nice pen!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You write whichever way allows your creativity to flow!.!.!.!.I prefer writing on the computer because if I want to flesh out an idea I can rewrite with very little interruption to my train of thought!.!.!.just go back and insert what I want to say!.!.!. of course if you use double spacing when you write you have a line for corrections and rewrites!. Editing on the computer is soooo easy!. But like I say!.!.!.which way makes you feel most comfortable and frees up your creativity best!? That's the method you want!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I used to write my stuff on paper and then type out the final product!. I think it really helped me grow as a writer!. I was able to spread my books and papers out on the table and go at it without any distractions!. I wouldn't do that today!. But that's because doing it like you are taught me to edit my own writing!. Keep doing it like you are!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You do what's best for you and obviously writing it down in a notebook where you can hold it and look at it and change it comes more naturally to you!. Don't fight it, just go with the flow!. There's no shame in typing it later when you're cool with the end result!.

Cheers! =)Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm a writer and the best advice I can give you is to just do what works for you! There are no rules, just whatever gets you writing! I personally prefer to write first with notebook and pen and then type it up on the computer!. When I'm typing it, I find tons of errors and edit lots!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Honestly, I preferr to write in a note book and the type it because when you type it you can go over it and make changes or fix things that you might of missed!. Its kind of like self editing it and writing it at the same time!.

You should do whatever works best for you!.

For me, I find that my muse wakes up and starts talking if I'm right here at the computer!. It may be different for you!.
