I hate to burst people's bubbles but if Snape wasn't in love with Lilly, he wouldn't even have a patronus!. Evil can't make patronus' and if he didn't love Lilly than Snape would have been evil!. I love Snape too but remember what Dumbledore said!.

Snape wouldn't be good if he didn't love her!. The only reason he even left Voldemort was because Voldemort was going to kill her!.

Remember his memories!? Lilly said he was hanging out with those soon to be death eaters!. If it wasn't for Lilly, Snape would have joined Voldemort right away and never would have left to go on Dumbledore's side!.

Well, the answerer above me had the same idea!.!.!. But she's right, if it wasn't for Lily, Snape probably would never have learned the Patronus Charm!. Remember, it is made up of goodness, and if it wasn't for her, he wouldn't have been good!. I doubt Voldemort could even do a patronus, because he was so evil!.

If Snape was not love with Lily the whole story would have been altered, for he would have probably joined Voldemort and never repented!. He would have been a man with a miserable childhood, no friends at school, and no support from anyone!. His great skill in magic would have probably driven his temptation to great evil!. We don't know how he felt before he feel in love with Lily!.
We only know his childhood wasn't that happy so, I guess it could have been any animal!.
