Harry Turtledove wrote a bunch of alternate-history novels set during WWII where aliens landed in the confusion!.

Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game is a classic, and kind of continues the military theme!.

J!.A!. Janes (I think) wrote some interesting mystery novels set in, I think, Paris, during WWII - paired a german gestapo agent with a french policeman!. Nothing really related specifically to the war, rather, they were about crimes with the world at war as a setting!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Looks like you enjoy space military so I highly recommend Elizabeth Moon, she has a US Marines background so the military stuff is pretty accurate and the science is hard or at least very firm!.

also CJ Cheryh for first contact books also hard to very firm science!.
