The dream is recited repeatedly in order to place emphases on the importance it had in the lives of these two men!. This dream helped George and Lennie deal with their hardships because they had a purpose and goal in life!. Whenever they felt sad or lonely or that the work load was too much for them to bear, they would think of their dream and it would give them strength and hope!. The dream was the light in the middle of their dreary life and it helped George and Lennie maintain their friendship alive and strong!. The dream really was an integral part of the story!. It is what the two friends worked towards and the hope it gave them made their dreary and difficult life bearable!. It is repeated to reiterate its importance but to also demonstrate how unacheivable it is!. It is clear, while reading, that the dream will never come true due to George and Lennie's social standing!. Much like the woman's (at the Ranch, cannot recall her name) dream of being in the pictures!.
