This is a rumor that has been going on for a very long time, and only because there are some passages of the Bible that are very poetic, and as you all know, Shakespeare was a poet! He did not, however, have anything to do with the writing of the Bible!. As someone already said, King James commissioned the greatest scholars to translate, and clean up the Bible, so it would be more uniform!. Shakespeare's fame came mostly after his death!. He was successful somewhat during his lifetime, but it has been 400 years, and his works are still important today!.

The Bible's writers lived long before Shakespeare, but I would say that he probably had just as much knowledge and interest in the Bible as anyone of his time!. It says in his writings that he was a regular church attender, and was married, and had his children baptized in church, so he was familiar with the teachings of the Bible, to be sure!.

I think you could very easily eliminate this aspect of writing about his life, there are sooooooooooooooooooo many other things that you could focus on!. Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

King James did not write the King James bible!. He commissioned scholars to translate the bible into English (from Greek or Hebrew)!. You might have to look up the dates, but it's not impossible that Shakespeare was one of the scholars, though I doubt it!.

The previous English bibles were considered poor translations and the King James completely replaced them!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

OK, let's straighten out some misconceptions here before continuing!.

Bibles are, by definition, *translations*!. Every Christian bible that has ever been put together, to the best of my knowledge, requires translation from at least one other language!. The reason!? The texts of the bible were originally written in 3 ancient languages!. Shakespeare, *if* he was involved with the bible, was not involved as a *writer* but, rather, as a translator or editor (turning the translator's work into polished English)!.

The King James Version - was completed between 1605 and 1611!. There were *several* English bibles pre-dating this!. Shakespeare need not have been involved with the KJV to have been involved with the bible but, as it turns out, he died in 1616 - meaning that he could certainly have been involved with the King James Bible!.

A note: the premise of this belief is, essentially, that Shakespeare was 46 in 1610, and that the words shake and speare appear in Psalm 46, thus suggesting to those who draw conclusions from facts not warranting those conclusions that Shakespeare may have had a hand in editing that Psalm!. However, the King James Version was a revision, which means that, when the translation permitted it, the words of bibles already established were to be used rather than a new translation!. The primary bible mandated as a reference for the King James Version was the Bishops' Bible of 1568!. In 1568, Shakespeare was 4 years old!. Psalm 46 of the Bishops' Bible has the *very same two words* in it!.

QED - Shakespeare had nothing to do with Psalm 46 of the King James Bible!.
