Hey good for you! Writing is a great pass time, and starting from a young age can be extremely beneficial to the writer!. As for your questions:

1) Computer, definitely computer, that way it can't get lost, you can print out copies (instead of writing 5), and edit it any time you want!.
2) I would start with a font size roving around 12, and a simple font like Arial or Times New Roman
3) Prologues are always interesting, though I would suggest reading a few different books and identifying the type of style you like best!.
4) Most of the time it is imagination, though we on Y!A would be delighted to help!.
5) Have as many people edit it as possible!

Good luck in your writing, I hope you find success!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

For number 1, it's just whatever works for you! I find typing my stories good because I can type quickly so I can get my thoughts down faster!. But, I usually end up writing in a notebook!. It is easy for me to take anywhere or work on whenever I want to!. I would definitely suggest having a notebook if you are going to do that, though!. Loose paper would just get confusing!
A good way to start a story is to write what's in your mind!. Don't worry about making the beginning perfect right away, you can always go back and edit!
Good ways to find names- search names on the internet, ask on Y!Answers, or use names of people you know!.
Something that I just recently started that has helped me is having a notebook of randomness just for story writing!. In it I write down quotes, names, song lyrics, phrases, or anything that has or could inspire my writing or be helpful in a story!.
Happy writing! God bless!Www@QuestionHome@Com

When I was 12, we didn't have computers(!) so I used a typewriter, but writing on paper is good, too, because you can do it anywhere - even on an evelope if you suddenly get a good idea at the mall or somewhere!. Here's a tip, though - if you use a computer, always back your work up on a disc!. I lost practically a whole story once when my computer crashed! Good luck, Allison!. Actually, Allison sounds like a good name for a character!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I really don't have any answers, I am 46 and just beginning to write a book for the first time, myself!. I have always wanted to write, but I just didn't think I could!. Something has happened in my life that I want people to know about and I am disabled so I have plenty of time to learn how to write and actually write a book!. It's so exciting but just starting is a scary place to be!. I have gotten alot of help from Holly Lisle!. She is an author and she has her own website, so you might want to check it out!.
I just wanted to tell you GOOD LUCK!.

I started writing when I was 10 - you're never too young!. :)

1!. I like paper!. It's how I started writing, and I like to edit while I'm transferring a story from a notebook to my computer!. Remember, though, that your work will have to be typed if you want it published!.

2!. I use 10 or 11 point serif fonts!. The standard for manuscripts submitted to publishers is 12 point Courier New or Times New Roman, double spaced!.

3!. Starting with an emotionally intense scene is interesting and likely to grab the reader's attention, even if you have to go back and explain later!. But if you don't know where to start, just start with the main character's daily life to get the story flowing and go back to edit later!.

4!. I use behindthename!.com!. I start by picking a nationality depending on what I want the name to sound like, then just look for names that resonate with me, or sometimes names that have a meaning that fits the character!.

Want me to email you copies of some ebooks about fiction writing!? They've helped me out a lot!.
