The "hallows" in the book were the three items which, if united, would make the holder a "master of death" - they are the elder wand, the resurrection stone and the cloak of invisibility!.
J!.K!. Rowling doesn't seem to be aware that the word "hallow" is a verb meaning to make holy, coming from the Old English adjective hálig (meaning holy or blessed)!. The word "Hallowe'en" was originally "All Hallows' Eve" - meaning "All Saints' Eve" (as the next day is All Saints' Day!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hallows can also be taken from hallowed, which is used to described holy grounds, especially graveyards!. There you are among the dead!. This may have something to do with it, as the 'deathly hallows' were objects given to the brothers from Death himself!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
