Question: What are they called!?!?!? in hard cover books !.!.!.!.!.!?

ok for some reason i am having a difficult time in thinking of how to best describe what i am searching for!.!.!. (naps are not good for me)
i know i've read it before !.!. but cant think for myself right now and its killing me!.!. lol

what are the bunches of pages within a hard cover book called!? grouping of pages!.!.um!.!. booklets!.!.tiny books within books, lol no!.!.!. um!.!. anyone!?!?

they are called signatures (why I don't know)!. They are really large sheets, folded several times, and usually sewn to the binding (often glued these days)!. The the edges are trimmed off to make separate pages!.
