Question: Honors English class reading Twilight!? !?
I'm in an honors english class (9th grade) and our teacher is having us read Twilight for our first book!? Aren't we supposed to read classics and books with meaning!?

Do you guys have messed up English classes too!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I agree - you should be reading classics and books with meaning!. Not Twilight!. I had, past tense, messed up English classes from time to time!.

Favorite book I read in high school!? Catcher in the Rye!. Or the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Alright, I read that book and thought it was good but!.!.!.for a school assignment!? That's a bit backward if you ask me!.

Twilight is a good story, but that's it!.!.!.it's a story!. The classics that everyone hates to read in high school actually *mean* something!.

My favorite book that I read in high school, well, there were a lot!. Pride and Prejudice (sophomore year), definitely!. Frankenstein, Siddhartha, and The Awakening definitely make the list, and those three were all from senior year!. My favorite freshman-year book was To Kill a Mockingbird!.

Oh yeah, The Great Gatsby was an amazing book as well!. I ripped through the pages in that one!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it has meaning!.

no, not all english classes read the classics!.
your teacher probably figures that you have read enough of that, and since you are honors, you need a bit more of a challenge!. something with interst!.

I am also in honors (7th grade) and our teacher often has us read books that are not considered "classic" but after reading them, I have come to love!.

and twilight, is an amazing book!. i read it on my own time, and i loved it, and I am sure you will too!.

dont think of it as an assignment, just think of it as something you are reading for fun!. Im sure you will enjoy it much more that way!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yeah that was like me as well!.!.!. In year 7, my English teacher made us read Harry Potter!. I guess what they're trying to do is make us read, put it into the context of the English topic at the time and make it enjoyable! I wouldn't want to be reading a boring book for english either!

So no, I wouldn't say its messed up, just a different way for the teachers to get what they want - kind of like giving medicine to a kids, put it in their food, hide it in their treat instead of the usual spoon or measuring cup!

hope this helpedWww@QuestionHome@Com

If I were an English teacher, I wouldn't teach Twilight!. It's entertaining, yes, and it has symbolism, too, but it is NOT on the same plane as books like Catcher in the Rye (my favorite I've read in high school) or The Great Gatsby (my favorite book of all time <3)!.!.!. so challenge yourself outside of school so you'll be prepared for college, or whatever else you plan for your future!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

wow thats rather awesome!! lol, that would be the best assignment ever, but maybe a little boring for boys, huh!? Still that'd be cool, and weird!?!? we have to read Moby Dick in my honors tenth grade class!. Thats traditional, somewhat boring!. So yeah that's messed up!. good though i thought twilight was great! if you don't like it so far, you'll prolly see that it gets better!.

so far my favorite book we read in school was cather in the rye!. That was a really messed up book though too (if you read it you would know)!.

good luck this year!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Pippa, I feel so sorry for you!. I would've screamed with outrage if that was my assigned book!. This crazy world has a few sane people, I guess!. Stupid Twilight craze!.

Luckily, I never had messed up English classics!. My Alma Mater had us read classics!. Been there, done that!. :)

In high school, I read Wuthering Heights!. I loved it! But I can hardly choose, they were all great! The Picture of Dorian Gray, Sense and Sensibility, Jane Eyre, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Animal Farm, Pride and Prejudice!.

Have you actually read it!? If you haven't, you probably should give it a chance, and I bet you will find that you like it!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I SEE WHY!!!!! THE TWILIGHT BOOKS ARE SO POPULAR THATS WHY! YOU'LL SEE JUST WAIT THERE SOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, you could read classics on your own time!. Nothing stopping you! Cool class assignment!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My gosh, what have these luny teachers come to!? Is the world ending!?
My favorite during HS (so far) has been A Separate Peace!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Wow, that is both awesome and irritating at the same time!. I am so sorry!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
