Question: Why do "self improvement books" have dumb titles !?
Today I went to the library and checked the "self improvement" section!. I am a firm believer, that there is always something that someone can improve him/herself!. The titles of those books shocked me!!
"How to talk to a moody partner"
"How to stay sober and succeed"
"How to date and actually marry the person"
"How to wake up and smell the flowers"
So many "how to"!.!.!.meanwhile, the "Home &Garden" section, was a keeper ! Everyone was buying "how to plant tomatoes and how to cook them" !Www@QuestionHome@Com

Which is more eye catching:
1!. How to work your computer or
2!. COMPUTERS FOR DUMMIES!?

Those book titles are trying to sound practical, so people who wants almost instant satisfaction see that they are not going to do a lot of effort in getting or achieving what they want!. Take in consideration that most people think that they have taken a big leap from tv as a solving problem source to trouble themselves to go into a library and lookout for a book instead!.
On the other hand, did you observe that most titles are "prescriptive" I mean, I consider that they are trying to leave the impression that they are the ultimate and practical answer as if what is written inside will really get you what your looking for and that if you do not buy it your life will remain pretty much the same!. If one knows "how to plant tomatoes and how to cook them", chances are he/she will know -insinctively- "how to talk to a moody partner, stay sober and succeed, date amd actually marry the person, wake up and smell the flowers!.!.!.!.
Those books have dumb titles because if they had complex and scientific titles, the person looking for such books would think : "Oh, I understand what it says!. How clever and highly educated am I to understand such a title!!!!! Therefore, I need no books to self improvement! I can manage myself! " And no one whould borrow those books!. "Are you Allergic to Air!?"

You mean like, "How to work with a computer for dummies" yeah, I don't know why!. To grab someones eye, so the person will know what the book is about without having to read the summary!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
