Question: Do you need a college education to publish a novel!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Usually, no!.

The exception would be if you were wanting to publish a eference or text book!. You would almost certainly need a degree in the subject in order to get published!.

also, I have noticed that almost every self help book is written by a Dr or a person with many qualifications!. That would be a hard field to get into for someone without a degree!.

For other types of books, you definitely don't need a degree or even much education, although it can be helpful!.

While various authors find the discipline and knowledge they acquire as part of a university education to be very useful, many popular and well read authors don't have any qualifications apart from 'wonderful storyteller'!.

When you think about it, that's just how it SHOULD be!

Best wishes :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, but here's the deal!. Writing is an extremely hard market to get into these days!. Publishing houses are inundated with manuscripts from people who want to be writers simply because someone in their family, or a friend, told them they were good!. It takes a lot of hard work and near perfect grammar and spelling to even get a foot in the publishing door!. In other words, even the greatest story ever written will be tossed in the garbage if it has misspellings and/or improper grammar!. For this reason, though you don't need a college education, taking a few writing and English courses to "bone up" couldn't hurt!.

Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, yes and no!. No, in a sense that when you go get a job an employer is going to look at your title that you graduated with!. A publisher will not do that!. Yes, in a sense that what publishers will look for is experience!. Chances are someone who graduated from college will be treated differently (as in treated more seriously) as opposed to someone still in High School!. But bottom line is - if the publisher finds that the book is "buyable" they'll accept it no matter what your age is!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, but it can't hurt!.

Understanding the fundamentals of literature, as well as more complex methods of analysis, can really help when you go to construct a story!. That way you're not just writing - you're making sure you have proper theme, symbolism, characterization, etc!. Understanding the minutiae of writing can only strengthen your expertise!.

I'm planning on getting my Ph!.D!. in English solely so that I can have the best possible grasp on technique!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

no!. there are companies that will help you publish a book yourself!. It costs a lot of money though!.

EDIT: whoever thumbs downed me is an idiot!. My mom never graduated college and she is currently publishing her own book!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

no!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes!. No publisher will even both reading your manuscript unless you enclose a copy of your diploma with it!. And your GPA needs to be at least 3!.2!.

Publishers don't care a bit about content or good writing!. Just that you went to an accredited four-year university!. Fortunately they have their priorities straight,
