Question: Gothic Short Story Project - Storyline help!?

So far in my gothic story, I have a mad scientist and his apprentice, and the scientist discovers something!.!.!.but I can't think any further than that, and i don't want to be repetitive and have a Frankenstein story!.!.!.Help appreciated!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The mad scientist discovers a terrible secret- something so terrible/abominable it begins to drive him mad!. (That can be whatever you like!. Maybe he discovers the secret of eternal life, or some kind of really addictive poisonous drug or something!.) Anyway, the apprentice tries to figure out what's going on and save the scientist's life before they both die in a horrible, dramatic, sword-duel amid thunderstorm and lightning-on-the-rainswept-castle-battle!.!.!. way!. Perhaps there can also be a beautiful and innocent mad-scientist daughter, for a romantic interest subplot and to shriek in terror during the sword-duel scenes!.

Or, maybe the mad scientist is trying to come up with some kind of secret weapon for a political conspiracy!?!? Www@QuestionHome@Com
