A will need not be notarized, but requires a witness, preferably 2!.

Most of the verbiage in a will does one or all of 3 things:

1) Establishes that you wrote it; you are of sound mind and body; and you are not writing it under duress!. Various bulletproofing!.!.
2) Establish an executor, and otherwise expedite the processing by forgoing a bond!.
3) Establishes what you want given to whom!.

A handwritten will can be effective under certain circumstances!. Who knows about it!? How complex are your finances and what relation is the recipient!? If the recipient shows up at your bank with the will in his or her hand, the bank will not hand him or her the money!. The matter will be turned over to probate court, which can drag on and on!.

If you overlook obvious legatees, let's say a spouse or children, a legal case could be made that perhaps you were not in you right mind, and the whole thing gets dragged out in court!.

Good Luck,

You can actually go into some stationary stores and buy at-home "will kits", that cost about $20!. They have all the paperwork, and instructions!. Try Staples, or Grand & Toy, or maybe even Walmart!.

I think it would be best to have it notarized!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
