Question: Writers & readers do you agree with my statment regarding authors (ex:Stephenie Meyer)!?
Ok I heard about Stephenie Meyer's statements that she "writes for herself" and that she "can't give all the readers everything they want"
I'm not going to give you a long rant about why I can't stand Breaking Dawn because that's not the point I'm trying to get it at!. Still I don't wholly agree with that statement because although you have to write for yourself, if you know your putting out a novel that's off brand from the rest of the series AND even the editors said it was messed up then don't put it out for sale! If your writing for yourself why get it published!? If your writing to entertain yourself why put it out there to entertain others!? I know that the writer has to have full control of their story and they have to write it their way!. Still I can entertain myself all day with stories but I want to share them with other people because I want to entertain them and evoke some kind of emotion!. You write for yourself but when you share it you write for others!.

BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My main point is the second statment she said!. "you can't give the readers everything they want" Of course I agree with that!. Then novels wouldn't be as great!. Would the readers have had Romeo and Juliet die!? Would Harry Potter's parents have magically lived!? So I agree with that BUT in her novel I just didn't like the ending!. I think she gave herself (her #1 reader) what she wanted!. The whole novel past the "WTF!?" beginning and the "Ewww!!!" middle led to up to the big "fight" with the Volturi!. SM says it was a legal battle which is kind of shitty seeing as how they could have done all that via webcam!. Still it was a douche-y way to end the novel and it purposely avoided all kind of conflict!. If a novel ends in a fight GOT DAMMIT SOMEBODY SHOULD DIE!!! All of the characters got a happy ending and everthing they wanted and more!. The conflict didn't even last long!!! It was a bunch of melodramatic stalling!!! No need for 700 or so pages!. Still she says she couldn't please everyone which leads to my statement (sorry 4 the long beginning)

"You can't write to please your readers, but you can't write to please your characters either!."

She didn't please her readers but she made sure her characters got everything they could ever wish for!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I thought it was pathetic for her to say, "There was a lot of pressure on me for this novel and I knew I couldn't please everyone"!. That's true, but come on!. She kind of helped increase that pressure-- she's the one who released quotes every day for the 3 weeks leading up to Breaking Dawn and talked for months beforehand about "how excited she was for Breaking Dawn", though that admittedly may have been the publisher's doing!. But really, she didn't have THAT much pressure!. Yes, a lot of people were anticipating BD!. Yes, she had pressure!. But JKR had much more pressure with HP7, and she managed to pull HP7 off!. Not everyone loved it, but most did!. Most felt that DH wrapped up the series nicely!. It left us feeling fulfilled!. There wasn't a backlash like there has been with BD!. If JKR can be under that kind of pressure and pull it off, I think it makes Smeyer a little weak to use the "pressure" excuse!. I know they are two different people who deal with stress in different ways, but still!. I felt like she was trying to make excuses for the book, and trying to put the blame anywhere but herself!.

I thought it was stupid of her to say she "writes for herself"!. I understand what she means when she says that, and I agree with her that you shouldn't let what other people want affect every aspect of your story, but when you are that popular of an author, you aren't writing just for yourself anymore!. You are writing for yourself and millions of others!.

I agree that Breaking Dawn was awful!. It's the stupidest and most absurd book I've ever read!. Twilight is Smeyer's fantasy; it's her self insert!. That's why she gave herself the ending she wanted, lol!. Bella is Smeyer; Smeyer gets to "be with Edward" through Bella!. But Smeyer loves Jake too, so she found a way to "be with Jake"-- giving him Bella 2!.0!. Blegh!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think Meyer is a crap author and I'm not just real sure how her vampire series has managed to take off in this obsessive way!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Stephenie Meyer is the most dramatic author I've ever known!. She's a complete hack!. It's obvious that she isn't writing for herself anymore!. With the popularity of her books, how can she still say that it's all for herself!? She is very much like Bella!. Whiny, immature, stupid and brainless!. They don't think before they act!. Stephenie thinks it's grand to give her characters everything they want, no matter how unrealistic and nonsense it is!.

Breaking Dawn was the worst book I've ever read, no exaggeration!. Give me Eragon or Narnia any day!. (I hate those kind of books, but it's better than BD!.) BD was full of fluff, nonsense, crappy, too sugar-coated for my taste!. The characters get everything they want and they live happily ever after!. Bleech!. There is no depth or meaning!. It's immature!. Nobody could ever relate with that book!. And when Meyer had the chance to build up conflict, she decided to make the Volturi leave like a bunch of cowards instead of the strongest vampire coven!. She spent hundreds of pages to tell us that!?! I was so exasperated when I finished Breaking Dawn I threw it in the wall!. I was pissed off with the Twilight series, Stephenie Meyer and its fame!. How the hell did Twilight series get this popular when they are crap novels!? Our society will soon crumble if this is what people call a good book!.

I agree with you because I dislike Twilight!. As soon as I finished the first book, I was annoyed because everything seemed so unrealistic!. Then I read the second one to see if the book was better, but it was worse! I might read the third just for the heck of it, but
I really think I wasted my time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
