Question: Can anyone think of a novel whose story doesn't have the female protagonist falling in love!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (and the other books in the Chronicles of Narnia) by C!.S!. Lewis

A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

Heidi by Johanna Spyri

Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm by Kate Douglas Wiggin

Pollyanna by Eleanor H!. Porter

(Of course, all of the above are considered children's classics!.)

The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde (Thursday Next already loves someone!. The story doesn't show the process of falling in love!.)

any Miss Marple mystery by Agatha Christie :)

Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor by Stephanie Barron (This is the first Jane Austen mystery story, written as though by Jane Austen!. Though later in the books there is a man who becomes important to her, in the first there is no love interest!.)

The Turn of the Screw by Henry James

A Walk in Wolf Wood by Mary Stewart (again, this is more a children's fantasy)

This is actually a rather tough question, since there is often a love interest or falling in love somewhere in the story!.

***Edit: I did think of My Cousin Rachel by Daphne du Maurier in which the protagonist is a man, who does fall in love with Rachel!. However, even at the end of the story, you are not sure about Rachel: is she good or bad, did she murder or not, did she love or not!? Not precisely what you wanted, but!.!.!.

In The Old Curiosity Shop by Charles Dickens, the female lead doesn't fall in love!. If you consider Estella to be the lead female, Great Expectations doesn't have her fall in love!. Pip does, she doesn't!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the Light Witch
it sounds completely lame and only for little kids, but it is quite complicated and i enjoyed the series a lot!. you however would be a bit to old for it!.
now i come to think of it there aren't that many books were the female protagonist doesn't fall in love! The authors these days!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, I can think of a great one!. Mildred in "Of Human Bondage!." A doctor is fascinated by a waitress that will barely give him the time of day!. All through the book he doesn't understand his affection for her but is hopelessly attracted to her!. She treats him so unfairly and only comes running back when she needs help!. He's a good man that can't recognize decent women when they come into his life!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

House on Mango Street- Sandra Cisneros
Four Souls- Lousie Erdrich

and I also thought about So Far From God by Ana Castillo because the main protagonist doesnt fall in love- Sofi- but her daughters find various forms of love and in different ways that brings them harm but thats not their main story!.
