It's been a while since I read it!. But I believe he had religious scruples against killing the Lilliputians!.

All the people in the places Gulliver visited were parodies on humans, take-offs on the way humans are!. The Lilliputians were -small- in more than just size!. They were having a war over which end of an egg to break!. Gulliver thought this was silly, not something worth fighting and killing each other over!. He tried to broker a peace between them!. When that didn't work he got involved in a war between them to minimize the damage that was done, to save lives!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
