Question: Twilight question anyone!?
I'm re-reading Twilight for the billionth time and I just realized something!.
OK, when James calls Bella, at the hotel in Phoenix how come Alice and Jasper couldn't hear the actual phone call!? p!. 426-430
Vampires have excellent hearing, they can hear whispers across the length of two football fields!. I guess my theory is that its either a flaw in the book, or vampires hearing isn't as fine tuned to electronics!?
But then again they can hear a cars engine when it is turning into their mile long driveway!.

That's a very good point, wow, I never would have noticed! But now that you mention it, maybe it's because Alice and Jasper's attention could have been focused elsewhere!. Like someone else already said, they could have been just focused on James: Alice seeing the future based on what James was doing and as for Jasper he could have easily associated Bella's uneasyness to the situation they were in (which you know was brought on to the fact that she was away from Edward, she left Charlie, and Forks so fast due to the threat,etc)!. Gotta remember Jasper ain't no mind-reader like Edward, all he can now is how you feel at the moment and act on that, but he can't pinpoint what causes the emotion (unless he is there witnessing for himself)!. I personally believe they were just distracted!. They're like humans in the sense of hearing only what they want, I think they were mainly tuning Bella out!. Alice was purely consentrating on trying to see anything in the future that might help them and remember Jasper was still fairly "new" to the vegetarian diet so I believe he was mainly focused on controlling his thrist for Bella's blood!. my thought is that if it helped the book then they would have heard it, i mean say she wrote it like that!.!.!.how do u presume to have bella ditch the few people that it's impossible to escape from, so she probably didnt have her get caught by them because then she would have reached a dead end!.!.!. i think it's perfect the way it is!. good catch thats something to think about but all i think is that maybe alice was to busy trying to see the future and the ballet studio and jasper to caught up in Alice's emotions and trying to keep her safe!. But there are things that authors can not skip around and it just happenes!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
Jasper was not in the room at the time, and Alice thought that Bella was talking to her mom!. That's why James told Bella to say all the things she was saying to make it sound like she wasn't talking to him!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

WOW awesome point!. Maybe it was because they were so focused on thier family at the time and Alice on the futre they weren' t paying close attention to Bella!?!? I would think Jasper would have sensed Bellas stress though! Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because they have secret sponges that they send into each other's ears in order to absorb sound and block their super hearing capabilities!. The actual maneuver itself is called Sponge Blocking, and it has become increasingly popular over the years!.
It's also called idiocy and 'I've read better stories written by a fifteen year old' writing!.
