Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Pattern Recognition by William Gibson Perdido Street Station by China MiƩville Old Man's War trilogy by John ScalziWww@QuestionHome@Com Have you read Stephen Donaldson's "the Gap" series!. Incredible!. This man can pen some characters!. There is a depth to his books that I rarely encounter!. Besides the characters, the story is awesome!. I can't even begin to relay the plot!. The first book is short and sweet, but they mature drastically after that!. He also wrote "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant"!. This is fantasy, kinda low key, not a lot of magic and monsters, but by far one of the best 6 books I have ever read!. He is finishing up the third trilogy right now, and I am waiting for the third book before I start reading it!. You can't go wrong with the "Dune" series, but I don't know if that would be contemporary!. His son picked up the books where he left off!. Good in their own right, but not in the same ballpark!. Brian Lumley has some good sci-fi!. Mostly horror related, though!. His H!.P!. Lovecraft novels are the best (barring the master) that I have ever come across!. He stays true to form with his interpretations!. Www@QuestionHome@Com I've read mostly stuff that's a little older (Asimov, l'Engle, Orson Scott Card), but recently I really enjoyed To Say Nothing of the Dog, which is sci-fi/historical fiction (time travel) and very funny!. Another great time travel story - very short and very funny - is here: http://www!.abyssandapex!.com/200710-wikih!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com How about Lois McMaster Bujold's Miles Vorkosigan series!.!.!. or maybe Kage Baker's Company books!. Or Michael Swanwick (I like his short stories best though)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Catherine Asaro Neil Gaiman (although I guess he's more fantasy) Orson Scott Card- Ender series Philip DickWww@QuestionHome@Com I recommend Little Brother by Cory Doctorow and Rash by Pete Hautman!.Www@QuestionHome@Com W!.
