Question: Translate this text from The Picture of Dorian Gray (french to english)!?
This I read in Oscar Wilde's Novel!.
It says it is from Gautier's Emaux et Camees

Sur une gamme chromatique,
Le sein de perles ruisselant,
La Vénus de l'Adriatique
Sort de l'eau son corps rose et blanc!.

Les d?mes, sur l'azur des ondes
Suivant la phrase au pur contour,
S'enflent comme des gorges rondes
Que soulève un soupir d'amour!.

L'esquif aborde et me dépose,
Jetant son amarre au pilier,
Devant une fa?ade rose,
Sur le marbre d'un escalier!.

I would try an online translator, but I know the results would be suck!.
ThanksWww@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
From Théophile Gautier's Enamels and Cameos!.

On a chromatic scale,
In the midst of streaming pearls,
The Venus of the Adriatic
Thrusts from the water its rose and white body!.

The canopies, on the azure of the waves,
Follow the phrase in pure outline,
Are threaded like the full throats
That raise a sigh of love!.

The skiff lands and puts me off,
Throwing its cable on the piling,
Before a rose face
On the marble of a stairway!.

Okay my french is a little rusty so this is supplemented with a translator (you are right about the translator, at least babel fish doesn't make much sense unless you can make a few fudges on the grammar before translating)

On a chromatic scale,
Dripping with pearls,
The Venus of the Adriatic
Leaves the water his body pink and white!.

The domes on the blue waves
Depending on the sentence with pure contour,
Swell as gorges round
That raises a sigh of love!.

The skiff approaches and puts me down,
Casting his line to the pillar,
Before a facade of rose,
On a marble staircase!.

Note: partly why it's so confusing is because it is only a small piece of a longer poem called Variations sur le Carnaval de VeniseWww@QuestionHome@Com

On a chromatic range, the streaming centre of pearls, Venus of the Adriatic Leaves water its pink and white body!. The domes, on the azure of the waves According to the sentence with pure contour, swell as round throats Which a sigh of love raises!. The wherry approaches and deposits me, Throwing its mooring rope with the pillar, Owe a pink frontage, On the marble of a staircase!.

I hope that's it!. It might not be !.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
