In California!.!.!.!."Cannery Row" was set in Monterrey, Calif (I was there and saw the sites where the book was based on)!. Several of his stories were based in Calif!.

FROM WIKKIPEDIA:

"Cannery Row is a novel by John Steinbeck!. It was published in 1945!. A film version was released in 1982!.

Cannery Row takes place in the small strip of land near a sardine fishery in Monterey known as Cannery Row!."

Another Book--"Grapes of Wrath"--From Wikkipedia

"Steinbeck wrote The Grapes of Wrath at his home, 16250 Greenwood Lane, in what is now Monte Sereno, California!. "

"Set during the Great Depression, the novel focuses on a poor family of sharecroppers, the Joads, driven from their home by drought, economic hardship, and changes in the agriculture industry!. In a nearly hopeless situation, they set out for California's Central Valley along with thousands of other "Okies" in search of land, jobs, and dignity!."

Read "Travels with Charley"--lovely story!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
