Question: Eclipse Series (caution, spoiler alert in the question)!?
I very much love the Eclipse Series and I just finished reading the fourth book and something keeps plaguing me!. In book two when Edward is going to kill himself, he is going to do so by merely stepping into the sun!.!.!.Alice even has to wear gloves to keep her hands protected!. But then in the two books after that, none of the vampires seem to have any trouble with the sun!. They have full-on fight scenes in the middle of the day and in the fourth book, Bella even comments on how neat Edwards skin looks with the sun glistening off of it!.!.!.Did I miss something!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

well there are no humans around at that time!. Most of the time its cloudy in forks so that's why the Cullen's can be seen in public and go to school!. But during the scenes that you talk about there aer no humans around at the time so there is no need for them to cover themselves up!. The sun doesn't hurt them its just that tend to sparkle in the sun!. Humans would be terrified if they saw that and possibly threaten to expose the vampires!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Edward was in the city of Voltura ruled by the Volturi!.
If Edward stepped out into the sun, then everyone would realize that he wasnt as human as he seemed, and then the general public would start to ask questions that the Volturi didnt want to asnwer!.
In essence: annoy the Volturi, You die!.
Alice had to wear gloves so that if she sparkled and the wrong person saw her, the Volturi might come after her too!.

The sun doesn't hurt him!. Its that by stepping out in the sun, Edward would have been exposing himself to the human world!. As the glistening would attract unwanted attention, the volturi would then kill him to punish him for putting the whole vampire world in jeopardy!. That was his plan!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Stepping into the sun would show humans that Edward was a vampire, thus angering the volturi!. As a result they would have to kill him as punishment!.
