Question: Help me with this quote [Catcher in the Rye]!?
I have a huge list of quotes I have to analyze and have been doing pretty well, but this one stumped me!.

“They were different though, I’ll say that!. They didn’t act like people and they didn’t act like actors!. It’s hard to explain!. They acted more like they knew they were celebrities and all!. I mean they were good, but they were too good!.”

We are suppose to write about what the writer implies about human's in general through this quote (I know strange assignment)!. So it should be like: J!.D!. Salinger implies that!.!.!.
and no specifics like "Holden is bored of ect!.
it is just supposed to be about humans in general!.

thanks so much!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, isn't Holden's belief that humans in general are phony!? That's a theme he keeps on talking about it throughout the story!. In my opinion, this quote is indirectly pointing out to more people who are phony: "!.!.!.they were too good!." That says a lot about the underlying belief that they are phony!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In general, Catcher in the Rye is about people being phony!. That quote seems like he is commenting on people's phoniness and just elaborating on it!. With that quote it almost seems like he is saying that they are so phony that they themselves believe it and buy into their own phoniness!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Salinger implies that people are too show-offy!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Some things in literature have meaning!. This does not!. It is just a smart-alecky way of describing some people you don't know very well and may never see again!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They could play a role!.
